What we believe
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
The following statements are meant to affirm our beliefs about core teachings of the Bible. They are not intended to be exclusive or restrictive statements. Rather, they provide a context for our life and mission.
Our unity is built upon several vital biblical teachings:
Corner House Christian Church
is a group of people who are seeking genuine faith, family, and fellowship in the body of Christ. We celebrate the wonderful freedom God gives us while striving for unity as believers.
The Bible contains a vast landscape of teachings that reveal God’s character, demonstrate his passion for his creation, and provide wisdom for right belief and living. Our attitude toward our beliefs can be expressed with statements like these:
Where the Bible speaks, we speak; where it is silent, we are silent.
In essential beliefs, we strive for unity; in matters of opinion, we allow freedom; and in all things, we show love.
The Bible
Both the Old and New Testaments are the inspired, infallible and authoritative Word of God, sufficient for our knowledge of salvation and godly living – “a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path.”
(Psalm 119:105; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
The Church
The body of Christ on earth, which exists to: bring glory to God, reach the world with the message of salvation and edify the saved. (Ephesians 4:1-16)
Humanity
Every person has worth as a creation of God, made in his image, but “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Genesis 1:26, 27 & 31; Romans 3:23)
Forgiveness
Forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life are available to those who trust Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. (John 3:16; Acts 2:38; Ephesians 1:7)
Salvation
Those accepting Christ must repent of sin, confess their faith and be baptized into him. Those God saves should continue to grow in him, investing their lives for his glory. (Acts 2:38; Romans 10:9; Ephesians 2:10; 2 Peter 3:18)
Eternity
Jesus Christ will one day return for his followers, spending eternity with them and reigning as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Those who have rejected his offer of salvation will enter into a Christ-less eternal judgment.
(1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9; Revelation 17:14)
God the Father
There is one living and eternal God who has revealed himself as a trinity in unity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He is three persons but one God.
(Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 8:6)
The Author and Creator of everything that exists; loving, just, all powerful, good.
Genesis 1:1-31; Psalm 103:19; Mark 10:18;
Luke 1:37; 2 Thessalonians 1:6; 1 John 4:8
The Son
Jesus Christ: the only begotten Son of God; the image of the invisible God; born of a virgin; lived a sinless life; died for our sins; arose from the dead; and now intercedes for his Church.
Isaiah 7:14; John 3:16; Romans 8:34;
1Corinthians 15:1-8; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Colossians 1:15
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment; he indwells believers and gives them new life in Jesus; he distributes spiritual gifts for the edification of the church and the proclamation of the Gospel.
John 16:8-11; 1 Corinthians 12:4-14;
2 Corinthians 3:6; Romans 8:9
